On Wednesday 3rd September (Week 7) we will be hosting 'Xhibit' - a HSC Major Works Showcase by our HSC students from Industrial Technology, Design and Technology, Society and Culture, English, Visual Arts, Music and Dance. We are excited to invite the Marian community and the extended community to attend XHIBIT: πΉ3.30pm-5pm - Industrial Technology, Design and Technology, English, Society and Culture πΉ5pm-7pm - Visual Arts, Dance and Music. ~LEARNING AT MARIAN - Spotlight on Year 11 Photography~ Our Year 11 photography students have been hard at work, diving deep into the fundamentals of photography and experimenting with a diverse range of techniques. Throughout the term, they have explored portraiture, advertising photography, light painting, and the creative possibilities of Photoshop. They also studied the innovative work of David Hockney, drawing inspiration from his unique approach to image composition and storytelling. Among the many impressive projects, two students have achieved notable recognition. Joshuaβs stunning portrait of Matthew playing the piano oozes atmosphere, while Syra's breathtaking shot of the Anzac Bridge at sunset beautifully showcases her eye for lighting and composition. Both were selected as finalists in the 2025 ALCHEMY Photography Exhibition β a wonderful achievement that celebrates their talent and dedication. We congratulate all our Year 11 photographers on their hard work and creativity, and look forward to seeing where their artistic journeys take them next! πΈ #LearningAtMarian #BeInspired #BeMarian

π CONGRATULATIONS β ACU STEP UP INTO TEACHING π We are incredibly proud to congratulate all five of our Year 11 applicants who have been accepted into the highly competitive ACU Step Up into Teaching program! π Congratulations to: Kaitlyn A, Hope B, Ella D, Paige E and Lucy P! This prestigious program provides students with an early pathway into a teaching degree at ACU upon successful completion of the course, which will be held later this year and in January 2026. ~ MISSION AT MARIAN β VINNIES VAN ~ This week, our wonderful Year 11 student volunteers and staff headed out with the Vinnies Van, supporting the communities of Parramatta and Mt Druitt. Together, they handed out food, snacks and drinks to people experiencing homelessness or at risk of homelessness β offering compassion, dignity, connection and conversation. Jasmine J (Year 12) was fortunate enough to be a finalist in the UNSW Museum of Human Disease Science Communication Competition for Science Week 2025. Students state-wide were challenged to design a poster or infographic on an infectious or non-infectious disease. π§«π¦ Jasmine placed second overall in the infographic division and attended the awards symposium last night. Congratulations Jasmine! πππ

πΉπ±β¨ Timor-Leste Immersion 2025 β Reflections β¨πΉπ± Over the recent school holidays, students and staff from Marian, Santa Sophia, and St Andrews embarked on an unforgettable journey to Timor-Leste, visiting Dili, Baguia, and Atauro Island. Through teaching English, connecting with local communities, sharing stories, and learning from the lived experiences of the Timorese people, our students encountered a culture of hospitality, faith, joy, and remarkable resilience. In a nation shaped by a challenging history, they witnessed strength and hope in every classroom, village, and conversation β a reminder that building a more just world begins with listening, learning, and walking together. Patrick (Yr 12) returned with a deeper appreciation for the joy and fulfillment of the Timorese people, despite their limited resources, and was inspired by the unique ways Catholicism draws people to God across cultures. Mrs Thomas described the immersion as life-changing, teaching her to βtrust in Godβ and approach challenges with gratitude. Meeting locals like Manna Leo β who survived years in hiding during the Indonesian invasion and now leads her community with generosity β was both humbling and inspiring.

Congratulations to Jacinta, Zoe and Troy who have graduated from the Generational Leaders Program. A program designed to help high school students excel in their leadership skills as well as in their self-confidence. Our students have spent the last 6 months developing solutions to real-world problems that impact both the school and wider community, alongside their usual Preliminary studies. πππ
