Today, we gathered as a school community to celebrate Harmony Day—a day that reminds us of the beauty of diversity and the strength that comes from unity. When things are ‘in harmony’ - they go together well - and as the slogan of Harmony Day states ‘Everyone Belongs’. We have almost 40 different cultures represented at Marian - this is one of our greatest strengths as a community. At today’s assembly, Ms Breakspear spoke about human dignity and how everyone deserves the right to be seen, valued and included - to be able to be proud of their identity and culture. “Harmony Day calls us to be people of welcome, to build a school where every student, no matter their background, feels safe, valued, and included. As Australians, we are blessed to live in one of the most multicultural nations in the world. Our diversity is our strength, and it is something to celebrate. But true harmony also means recognising the deep history of this land and working towards reconciliation with our Indigenous Australians — honouring their culture, listening to their voices, and walking together towards justice and healing.” Ms Breakspear challenged us to be counter-cultural. To choose kindness and speak up for those who feel unheard. And above all, to live out the love that Christ has shown us—a love that sees no borders, no labels, only the humanity we all share - as we continue to build a community where harmony isn’t just celebrated today, but lived every day.🧡🧡🧡

Commitment to Close the Gap clear for Western Sydney Catholic schools

Catholic Schools Parramatta Diocese (CSPD) has released its first annual Closing the Gap report. This report outlines its contribution to improving socio-economic outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, particularly students and their families. CSPD Chief Executive Officer Jack de Groot said the report reflects the dedication of CSPD’s 6 500 staff in fostering reconciliation and equity through the organisation’s 80 outstanding school across Western Sydney and the Blue Mountains.

Our six Executive Student Leaders recently attended LIFTED Leaders with other students from various schools in the Parramatta Diocese. LIFTED Leaders is a unique, dynamic, large-scale faith-based event that aims to draw upon and mirror the most positive ingredients of contemporary, popular culture that young people are currently living in. They brought this to life through the application of faith-related components and activities, such as students sharing personal experiences during their faith and leadership journeys, and worshipping God through Christian music sung by volunteers from Catholic Youth Parramatta. They also had the immense privilege of hearing about the Jubilee of Hope from Bishop Vincent! Vice Captain (Community) Eliana shared "Overall, it was an amazing experience and we can’t wait for others to have the opportunity to partake in this event in future years to come."

~LEARNING AT MARIAN ~ Year 11 Agriculture students had the incredible opportunity to visit Elizabeth Macarthur Farm 🐄🌱 in Menangle as part of their farm case study. This excursion provided hands-on learning about the Beef Cattle industry, cutting-edge technology, and the latest research being conducted on the farm. Students gained firsthand experience in assessing body condition scores of cattle after processing them through the yards and into the cattle crush. This practical activity deepened their understanding of cattle management and the importance of monitoring livestock health. A huge thank you to the team at Elizabeth Macarthur Farm for sharing their knowledge and giving our students an unforgettable learning experience! 👏 #LearningAtMarian #BeInspired #BeMarian #elizabethmacarthurfarm

⚽️ MARIAN FOOTBALL ACADEMY ⚽️ The Marian Football Academy will again continue, starting next week in Week 8 (Tuesday 25 March). Sessions will run every Tuesday and Thursday from 7.45am - 8.45am (1 hour session). Term dates are from Tuesday 25th March until Thursday 12th June (Term 2, Week 7). Marian students proudly represented St Madeleine Sophie Barat Parish in the Lifted Sports competition on Saturday, March 15, showcasing their skills and teamwork across basketball, soccer, touch football, and volleyball. Competing with great spirit and determination, they demonstrated outstanding sportsmanship throughout the event. Their efforts were recognised with an equal second-place finish in the prestigious Holy Spirit Plate, an award celebrating fair play and respect on and off the field. It was a fantastic day of competition, camaraderie, and community spirit.

~FAITH AT MARIAN ~ Today, Year 8 celebrated Mass, where Fr Giovani reflected on the Gospel of Matthew. In his homily, Fr Giovani focused on Jesus’ message about anger, reminding students that anger can dwell in our hearts, not just in physical actions. He emphasised the importance of reconciliation and peace, urging the students to remember that when we offer something to God, we must also seek to make amends with others. Fr Giovani also spoke about the power of repentance, explaining that recognising our mistakes and choosing the righteous path is vital for growth. While acknowledging that anger is a natural emotion, Fr Giovani reminded the students that we must not let it consume us, but instead, learn to address it in a healthy and peaceful way. #FaithAtMarian #BeConnected #BeMarian

The CSDA Public Speaking Competition is well underway, with over 70 schools competing across six venues in Sydney. Representing Marian at St Andrew's College, Marayong, our students delivered compelling speeches on thought-provoking topics such as "Words are the spaces in between" and "The narrative is missing." The competition was fierce, with an incredibly high standard of public speaking on display. A huge congratulations to Lucia, Keisha, and Abigale, who impressed the judges and progressed to Round 2 at Emmaus Catholic College. An extra shoutout to Abby, who continued her outstanding performance and secured a place in Round 3 — a fantastic achievement! 🌟Celebrating Student Sporting Success! 🌟 A huge congratulations to a number of our outstanding athletes on their incredible sporting achievements recently: Three of our incredible swimmers have successfully achieved times to qualify and swim at the Australian Age Championships in Brisbane in April. Congratulations to Ava (Year 8), Maisie (Year 9) and Andra (Year 12) for this fantastic achievement to compete at a National level! 🏊‍♀️👏👏 Hayley F (Year 7) - Hayley recently competed at the NSW All Schools Triathlon and will now represent NSW at the upcoming School Sport Australia 2025 Triathlon Championships in Western Australia. Hayley placed 1st in the Catholic Schools division and 4th overall! Congratulations Hayley, what an achievement and an incredible result! 🥇👏👏 Ruby M (Year 9) - Ruby recently represented NSW at the inaugural AFA (American Football Australia) Youth Flag Football Nationals. Ruby and her team made it to the grand final against QLD and were crowned U15 Girls Champions! Congratulations Ruby, another amazing achievement to compete and WIN at a National level! 🏈👏👏 Lachlan D (Year 12) - Lachlan recently competed at the Football Australia National Futsal championships earlier this year in Melbourne. Lachlan was presented with a local sporting champions grant by Julian Leeser (Federal Member of Berowra/Shadow Assistand Minister for Foreign Affairs). ~LEARNING AT MARIAN~ Year 11 Health and Movement Science (new 2025 syllabus replacing PDHPE in Stage 6) students recently went on an exciting excursion for their Depth Study on the Body and Mind in Motion. The students visited PhyxRehab at Cromer, where they participated in both theoretical and practical activities, including the 30-15 Intermittent Fitness Test, sprints, and various other fitness assessments. They had the opportunity to apply their knowledge to calculate their Maximal Aerobic Speed and VO2Max. In addition, they explored the role of macro and micronutrients in nutrition and meal planning for athletes. The students were also exposed to cutting-edge technology and had access to both the Physio Clinic and Manly United Football Club facilities.
