📚✏️ WRITE A BOOK IN A DAY ✏️📚 Last week, some of our students took on the challenge of writing a book in just one day as part of the Write a Book in a Day charity event. Students work together to write, illustrate and publish their own book, which will be donated to the Kids' Cancer Project and distributed to children to help brighten their experience while undergoing cancer treatment. The annual Bishop of Parramatta Award for Student Excellence celebrates Year 12 students who demonstrate strong values of faith, service, leadership and learning, recognising their positive impact on their schools and wider communities.

We are delighted to celebrate the outstanding achievement of five Year 11 Photography students who have recently had their work selected as finalists in the Catholic Schools Parramatta Diocese Captivate ‘Alchemy’ Photography Competition. Francesca T, William T, Oliver M and Brian C each had a photograph selected as a finalist, showcasing their creativity, technical skill and ability to communicate ideas through photography. 📸 An especially impressive achievement came from Zara S, who had photographs selected as finalists in three different categories, with one of her photos being used as the cover of the exhibition catalogue. This is a remarkable result and reflects the breadth and versatility of Zara’s photographic work. Being selected as a finalist in a competition such as ‘Alchemy’ is a significant accomplishment, with students competing alongside talented young photographers from across the Diocese. The competition challenges students to experiment with photographic techniques, explore creative concepts and use the medium to communicate meaning and emotion. These results are a wonderful recognition of the dedication and creativity of our Year 11 Photography students. Their success demonstrates the high standard of work being produced in our Photography course and is a fantastic achievement for our CAPA community. Congratulations to Francesca, William, Oliver, Brian and Zara on this outstanding achievement! 👏👏👏

On Sunday 30th August, our students put their critical thinking, creativity, collaboration and problem-solving skills to the test in the Tournament of Minds Social Sciences Challenge! 🧠🗣️⚙ This year’s challenge explored the ethical questions surrounding fast fashion — encouraging students to consider how everyday choices can affect people, communities and the planet. 👗🌏 Students were challenged to step into the role of a member of the student council and develop a solution for sourcing, designing, producing and selling limited-edition T-shirts for a charity fundraiser. But there was a catch! Students needed to look beyond simply raising money for charity and consider the economic, environmental and ethical consequences of their decisions. They had to weigh up competing priorities, research possibilities, make informed decisions and creatively present their solution as a team. A huge congratulations to all of the students who participated! We are incredibly proud of the teamwork, creativity and thoughtful problem-solving you demonstrated throughout the challenge. What an amazing opportunity to tackle a real-world issue and demonstrate that good solutions require us to think not only about what we can do, but what we should do.

Last week, our Year 7 and 8 students gathered at St Madeleine Sophie Barat Parish for a special Mass giving thanks for our fathers and the father figures who play such an important role in our lives. During the Mass, Fr Giovani reflected on St Joseph and the example of strength, faith, love and care he provided to Jesus. He encouraged us to recognise and give thanks for the fathers and father figures who guide, support and accompany us throughout our lives. We pray in gratitude for all fathers and father figures in our Marian community and for the many ways they share God’s love through their care and example. Happy Father's Day! 💙

Today, Marian proudly joined thousands of schools and businesses across Australia in supporting Jersey Day, helping to raise awareness for the life-changing gift of organ donation. 💛 Staff and Year 12 students marked the day, with a fun and spirited volleyball match for the annual Blake Tickell Cup. Jersey Day reminds us to start the conversation with our family and friends about organ donation—a simple discussion that can save lives. This Friday 4 September, the Marian Catholic College community will be supporting Jersey Day. Jersey Day is about promoting awareness of The Organ and Tissue Authority and the DONATE LIFE network. 👕👕All students have permission to wear their favourite sporting jersey over their uniform on Friday 4 September.👕👕 Students are not required to wear a blazer when wearing a jersey. We hope as many students and members of the Marian community wear a jersey to their workplace or school on Friday 4 September, showing their support for Jersey Day and the DONATE LIFE network, and begin the conversation with their friends and families about Organ Donation.

🎨 A Body of Work in a Day! 🎨 What can our Visual Arts students create in just one day? A whole lot of creativity! ✨ Last week, our Year 11 Visual Arts students took on the challenge of developing a mini Body of Work in a Day, exploring their concepts, experimenting with techniques and bringing their ideas to life. Students received valuable critical feedback from HSC Visual Arts mentor Johnny Romeo, before inviting their own mentors to view and respond to their work. It was a fantastic opportunity for our students to create, experiment, reflect and refine as they prepare for their HSC Major Works. 🖌️🎨 A big thank you to our Visual Arts teachers, Johnny Romeo and all of the mentors who supported our emerging artists throughout this inspiring day!
