At our assembly last week, esteemed guests from Rotary Club of Blacktown Mr Russell Ashley, President, and Mr Keith Waller, STEM advisor, presented the 2024 Dr Russ Dickens OAM Award for Innovation to STEM Team "Spuddies". Elijah A and Joseph N were presented with individual plaques with former Marian student Sophie O acknowledged for her contribution to the team. Ms Breakspear was presented with a plaque for the school. A huge thank you to Russell and Keith for their support and partnership with CSIRO in providing these opportunities for students. ๐๐กโ๏ธ

Congratulations to our Years 9โ10 Girls Five-a-Side Football Team! โฝ๐ Weโre incredibly proud of our Years 9โ10 girls football team who finished the season as runners-up in a highly competitive five-a-side competition! The girls played with heart, skill, and determination all season long, showing fantastic teamwork and sportsmanship every step of the way. Well done on an amazing season, girls! ๐๐

Last week, our Year 10โ12 students were fortunate to hear from Paul Dillon, a leading expert in youth drug and alcohol education. With close to 30 years of experience and a reputation for delivering evidence-based information in an engaging and relatable way, Paul has made a lasting impact on our senior students. His sessions are not only informative but empower young people to make safer, more informed decisions. We are grateful to Paul for taking the time to speak with our students and for his continued commitment to supporting the wellbeing of young Australians. ๐ฌ๐ฌ

CONGRATULATIONS to all of our students who participated in the PDSSSC Cross Country last week. Our competitors performed extremely well with some great results, and several students progressing to NSWCCC. Our Year 9 students participated in a memorable Reflection Day this week, led by the vibrant and inspiring Chris Doyle. The day was filled with energy, laughter, and meaningful reflection as students explored the theme of living in community and what it truly means to support one another. Through engaging activities, uplifting music, and plenty of dancing, Chris encouraged students to consider how they can live life to the full (John 10:10) embracing joy, connection, and collaboration. #BeConnected #BeMarian

~ MARIAN FAITH IN ACTION TEAM ~ Today, Marian students put the finishing touches on welcome signs for a female Syrian refugee whom our school community is helping to sponsor. Mrs Thomas will take these signs to Mascot Airport this evening to greet her upon arrival. This initiative is part of the Community Refugee Integration and Settlement Program (CRISP), which supports refugees who have no family in Australia. A dedicated committee of five volunteers acts as case managers, helping with everything from housing to community connection. Mrs Thomas serves on this committee, proudly representing Marian Catholic College. At school, we've been supporting this program through the donation of Woolworths Return and Earn vouchers. Every voucher helps โ no matter how small โ and contributes directly to easing the transition for those starting a new life in Australia. Vouchers can be handed in to Mrs Thomas and will also earn house points! Thank you to everyone who continues to support our Faith in Action initiatives. ๐ซถ #MarianFaithInAction #BeConnected #BeMarian

This partnership highlights the real-world opportunities available to our students and the strength of our connections with the agricultural sector. Year 8 Visual Arts Students Inspired by Visit from Johnny Romeo ๐จ Our Year 8 Visual Arts students were treated to an exciting and inspiring visit from internationally acclaimed pop artist Johnny Romeo. Known for his bold colours, energetic style, and thought-provoking imagery, Johnny captivated students with insights into his creative process and the power of self-expression through art. He shared stories behind his work, offered practical advice, and encouraged students to embrace their individuality and artistic voice. The visit was a memorable experience for allโand especially for one lucky student, Madden, who was thrilled to receive an original Johnny Romeo print ("Superman") to take home. The session sparked a new level of enthusiasm and creativity in our budding artists. Recently, our Year 12 students took part in a series of engaging career presentations designed to expand their understanding of post-school pathways. Guest speakers from Macquarie University, Apprenticeship NSW, Torrens University, and the Australian Defence Force shared insights into course options, entry requirements, and career opportunities. Students appreciated the opportunity to ask questions and explore multiple post-school options. We thank all guest speakers for their time and commitment to helping guide our studentsโ future aspirations. ๐

Wishing our mothers, grandmothers, step-mums, and the special women and mothers figures in our lives a very Happy Mother's Day. Thank you for the blessings of mothers, and all they do for us. We pray for our mothers, our Heavenly mothers and mums-to-be.๐๐ท๐ Lord Jesus Christ, You chose to put yourselfโtiny, needy and helplessโinto the nurturing and watchful hands of a human mother. Since then, every act of mothering, both physical and spiritual, in every time and every corner of the world recollects Maryโs. Inspired by this example, we, too, honour our mothers and mother figures today. Bless these women, that they may be strengthened as Christian mothers and nurturers. Let the example of their faith and love shine forth. Grant that we, their sons and daughters, honour them always with a spirit of profound respect. We ask this in your holy name. Amen. ๐
