~ ๐ SANTA HAT DAY ๐ ~ It's SANTA HAT DAY on Wednesday 4 December (Week 8 ). We've got loads of fun & festive activities organised for students to help us raise money for the annual Vinnies Christmas Appeal. Students can wear a santa hat while AT school and this is the last day for students to donate their hamper items. Students can also donate Woolies Return and Earn Vouchers or general store gift cards. There will be a range of activities in the DPA at recess and lunchtime including cupcake and ice cream stalls, karaoke, santa photos, and more! We're looking forward to a fun day and we thank you for your support in helping others in need at Christmas.

๐๐FAITH IN ACTION - 10,000 DRESSES IN 10 YEARS!!! ๐๐ Over the past ten years, Marian Catholic Collegeโs โSew a Smileโ initiative has donated over 10,000 garments to children across the Asia-Pacific, Africa, and the Caribbean!!! This wonderful initiative embodies the college's Christian values, providing handmade dresses and shorts to children in need. Garments have reached children through organisations and missions like the We Yone Child Foundation in Sierra Leone, orphanages in the Philippines, Timor Leste, and Haiti, and projects like the CWA Mother & Baby Packs in the Pacific Islands. Students from all grades, along with teachers, families, and community members, contribute to โSew a Smileโ through lunchtime workshops and sewing from home. Schools such as Loreto Normanhurst, St Agnes Rooty Hill and Tara Anglican College have also joined in, creating garments as part of their own community service programs. The initiative not only brings comfort to children in need but also teaches our students about compassion and the impact of simple acts of kindness. As one Year 7 student shared, โItโs such a simple idea to make a change in the lives of young children who are not as fortunate as us.โ Thank you to Mrs Meg Thomas for driving this initiative over the years, the staff, students, families and wider community who have generously contributed to this wonderful cause! ๐๐

This week, Year 10 PASS students attended the Sea Australia Surf School at Manly Beach, where they engaged in various surf awareness and lifesaving activities essential for water safety. The students practiced skills like wading safely into water, signaling for help, body surfing, and trying to surf on a surfboard. Guided by knowledgeable instructors, they learned valuable techniques and gained practical water safety knowledge, fostering camaraderie and teamwork. The hands-on experience allowed students to explore new skills, build confidence, and enjoy learning outside the classroom in a fun, supportive environment.

Last week, we welcomed the Marian community to our annual 'CREATE!' event. This year, the evening featured performances from Music and Dance, along with displays of student work from all key learning areas. The event provided a wonderful opportunity for us to share with the community the diverse talents and creativity of our students and the dedication of our staff.

CONGRATULATIONS to our three STEM MAD teams who represented Marian Catholic College at the CSIRO Generation Stem Showcase last week. Our students spoke with leading politicians, members of Rotary and the public, explaining their projects in detail. The Spuddies group won the Dr Russ Dickens Award for Innovation for their starch polymer idea - turning potato and other starchy vegetable scraps into bioplastics. Well done #teammarian๐๐๐

Today, our school community observed Remembrance Day, pausing to honour the courage and sacrifices made by service men and women who have served and continue to serve our country. Our school captains Jasmine and Kingston laid a wreath at our ANZAC memorial, reminding us of the importance of unity, peace, and remembrance. They shall grow not old as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning We will remember them. Lest we forget.

On this Remembrance Day, we honour the courage and sacrifice of our servicemen and women. The red poppy symbolises our gratitude, reminding us of the resilience that defines Australia. Amidst the tranquility of our land, we remember the ANZACs and their unwavering commitment. As we observe a minute of silence, we pay homage to the fallen but also express gratitude to those who continue to serve. Remembrance Day is a living tribute to our nation's spirit โ a reminder of the values that shape us.
